Purchasing Manager

Crary Industries is seeking a Purchasing Manager to join our team. This role will be base in the West Fargo location.

Position Objective

· The Purchasing Manager will lead the development and execution of our purchasing and inventory processes. The Purchasing Manager will will work closely with manufacturing and business unit leaders to manage the purchasing and inventory of materials for the company and those it services through developing, implementing, and executing lean principles and procedures.

Key Activities/Responsibilities:

· Manage and execute the purchase, receipt, and location of materials, supplies, and parts according to company budget, policy, and procedure

· Grows and develops the team members in the Purchasing and Scheduling Departments

· Develop, implement, and continually improve the company’s purchasing and inventory control processes with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow utilizing lean principles

· Coordinate with controller, Business Unit directors, and Supervisors to maintain appropriate inventory levels

· Collaborate with sales, manufacturing, accounting, and shipping/receiving departments to maximize efficiency in the purchasing, manufacturing, and accounting departments

· Evaluate vendors based on price, reliability, capability, and previous transaction history

· Negotiate with vendors volume and transaction discounts, other available discounts, and negotiate/complete vendor contracts for optimal performance, cost, and lead times

· Communicate with vendors in a proactive and timely manner to maintain positive relationships and to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale

· Collaborate with the production and engineering team on product development

· Stay up to date on the trends, prices, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability and advise the President and Business Unit Directors accordingly

· Keep record of paper and digital purchase orders in a complete and accurate manner

· Maintain and improve a purchasing recordkeeping system

· Keep track of pricing histories and other vendor records

· Explore ERP system opportunities and engage implementation

Perform other related duties as assigned

Education:

  • Two years college preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field highly preferred

Job experience:

  • At least two years of purchasing experience required
  • Purchasing experience in the manufacturing industry highly preferred
  • Previous experience in management and leadership preferred

Skills required:

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills

· Previous experience developing and leading purchasing strategies, development of external partner capabilities, and leading cost savings initiatives

· Working knowledge of material planning and scheduling methods

· Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

· Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel

· Experience with ERP systems

  • Strong financial acumen
  • Ability to lead and execute projects independently
  • Previous experience working with cross functional partners (Production, Quality, Engineering).
  • Ability to collaborate and influence others
  • Previous experience developing and leading purchasing strategies, development of external partner capabilities, and leading cost savings initiatives

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

· Knowledge of and experience in implementing lean principles as it pertains to purchasing and manufacturing
